PCC EXOL focuses on green chemistry!

Almost 50% of the company’s revenues are generated by the sale of green chemistry products. At the end of 2021, the green offer included over 100 different items. These are mainly chemical raw materials and additives for various types of cosmetics and detergents, based on biodegradable raw materials of natural origin and, importantly, manufactured with the use of renewable energy sources.

Green chemistry is not a trend but a necessity. Social awareness is growing, the number of people interested in eco products is increasing, both in the food and cosmetics industries – says Rafał Zdon, Vice President of the Management Board of PCC EXOL.
The quantitative sales generated by the company last year amounted to over 63 thousand tonnes and accounted for almost 67% of the total sales volume. And in terms of value, it amounted to over PLN 354 million.

The products that generated the highest sales are mainly substances based on natural fatty alcohols characterized by a high degree of biodegradability, low content of volatile organic compounds, free of parabens, alkylphenols and solvents. The products are not tested on animals, they do not contain allergens or carcinogenic substances. The majority of these are basic raw materials and additives to cosmetics as well as components of household chemicals.

We try to set a good example for others. We use innovative technologies so that our raw materials are safe for the environment – says Dariusz Ciesielski, President of the Management Board. We have launched a completely new product segment called PCC GREENLINE. Our operations are also a response to the needs of many clients operating in various industries.
Green chemicals producers have an influence on other industries.

The green products end up in the economy, the more sustainable their further consumption is. What’s more, global manufacturers operating in various industries today prefer to work with suppliers offering green solutions, often tailor-made. It should be remembered that it is consumers and their purchasing decisions that have a huge impact on trends in the industry. A perfect example is the cosmetics industry, where the customer is more likely to buy products of natural origin, not tested on animals, vegan and vegetarian, GMO free or paraben free.

With the PCC GREENLINE product segment, a lot has already been achieved, but we still have much to do. We invest in R&D development, we will introduce new products for sale in line with the green chemistry trend. Examples include bio-betaines or alkyl sulphates for the personal care sector. Our plans also include the production of surfactants based on green ethylene oxide – adds Rafał Zdon.

The company is already using green energy, and in the coming years it intends to make every effort to ensure that 100% of electricity consumed in PCC EXOL comes from renewable energy sources or is covered by RES certificate of origin.

More and more companies are adapting to the EU climate policy. Clean chemical technologies enable the delivery of products and services in an environmentally responsible manner.

The term “green chemistry” was first used by Paul T. Anastas, a US Environmental Science Advisor and a member of Yale University, in the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Green Chemistry Program in 1991. The concept is based on 12 principles that have guided manufacturing companies in the chemical sector. Among other things, industry should prevent the generation of waste and not just deal with its subsequent disposal, design products in such a way that, after their use, they decompose into harmless substances and use raw materials from renewable sources.

PCC EXOL shares and bonds are listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The company is appreciated for operating in accordance with the principles of sustainable business, which allows it to meet the high requirements of global concerns.
